The Turkish Airlines Open kicks off today (1st November) at the Regnum Carya Golf Club in Belek. With a combined prize fund of $7 million, this event has been a key component of the European Tour since its inception in 2013. The tournament is part of the Rolex Series – the tour’s Premium Category – and plays a major role in deciding who wins the ‘Race to Dubai’.
Past winners include Britain’s Justin Rose (2017) and Denmark’s Thorbjorn Olesen (2016) – both will again be competing this year, along with other ‘greats’ such as Lee Westwood and recent Ryder Cup hero Tommy Fleetwood.
Carya was the first classic heathland style course to be built in Turkey – it also has the distinction of being the first fully floodlit course in Europe.
With more than 300 days of sunshine a year, some truly stunning championship courses and high end hotel accommodation and service, Belek is now one of Europe’s top golfing destinations.
