Antalya, the tourism capital of Turkey, received more than 2 million tourists last month, according to the Provincial Directorate of Culture and Tourism – of these, 1.94 million were from overseas whilst 66.710 visited from other parts of Turkey. This is an increase of around 33% compared to the same month last year.
The top 5 visiting countries were Russia, Germany, Ukraine, UK and Poland. The 2 countries with the highest jump in visitors numbers, year on year, were Poland and the UK, increasing by 100.17% and 165.34% respectively. The number of visitors from Russia increased by 28.5%, whilst those from Germany and Ukraine were up by 23.71% and 5.45% respectively.
The tourism capital also experienced an all time high in respect of number of foreign visitors in a single day, with 79.485 visiting on June 23rd. In the first 6 months of the year, Antalya has received almost 4.89 million visitors, with around 4.65 million of these coming from overseas – this in an increase of 40.18% compared to the same period last year. The top 5 visiting countries in this period were Russia, Germany, Ukraine, UK and Netherlands.
These figures reinforce the Culture and Tourism Ministry’s expectations of a total of around 40 million foreign tourists to Turkey by the year end.
