Around 7.5 million tourists visitied Antalya in the first eight months of the year, compared to the 6.4 million that visited for the whole of 2016. Back in July, Governer Menderes Turel announced that that he was looking at a year end target of 10 million visitors – with 4 months of the year left, it is likely that this target will be achieved.
The month of August saw around 1.8 million tourists visiting Antalya, a year on year increase of 75%.
Following the normalisation of ties between Turkey and Russia, the Russians are returning to Turkey in their droves – more than 2.6 million visited Antalya between January to August, representing a staggering year on year increase of 2.536% and a market share of 33%.
With around 1 million visitors and a 15.5% market share, Germany was the second largest market, followed by Ukraine with 545.278 visitors (7.8% market share) and the UK with 251.714 visitors.
