TUI announces 70% Increase in Demand for Turkey
Speaking at a meeting to discuss 4th quarter financial results, TUI CEO Friedrich Reissen announced that the company had seen a 70% year on year increase in demand for Turkish holidays for 2018.
Sam Turner, head of Hotelbeds and TUI’s primary distribution partner, has confirmed (in line with Friedrich’s announcement), that contracts have already been signed with 400 hotels in Turkey for the coming year – he added that many of these will have to be extended (beyond their previous remit) in order to handle this significant increase in interest for Turkey.
Turner went on to say that Turkey is now being perceived, once again, as a safe destination and that this change in perception is the primary driver for Turkish bookings for the coming year.
In terms of numbers of Turkish bookings made through TUI, the Brits are leading the way, followed by the Germans – somewhat surprisingly, the originating country with the 3rd highest number of bookings is Saudi Arabia.
