Recently released figures from Turkstat (Turkish Statistical Institute) show that a total of 4.270 properties were sold to foreigners in the first 3 months of this year.
Whilst this figure is around 8.5% lower than than that for the same period in 2016, it is a slight increase in that for 2015. Given the on-going negative perception that Turkey is experiencing both as a tourism and second home destination, these latest figures are encouraging.
The top 2 regions for foreign sales, as expected, were Istanbul and Antalya province (of which Alanya is part) – 3rd place went to Bursa province. The top 3 countries of origin for these buyers were Iraq, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, continuing a trend that has seen significant increase in interest from Middle Eastern countries in the last 5 years.
Recent research conducted by Currency specialist FairFX shows that Bulgaria, Turkey and Greece are the Top 3 ‘best value for money’ second home destinations
